Designer's Comments

This design represents some of my latest thinking on the Passagemaker Lite concept. As she is half the weight of a Nordhavn 55, cost to a similar level will be half while speed is substantially faster and accommodation roughly similar. The PL 5602 also offers far less stair climbing between living areas.

This design includes daily living functions; galley, helm, dining, and lounging areas all on one level in the deckhouse. This area has windows around 360 degrees and easy main deck access. There is also a huge flying bridge above. Aft is the full width owner’s suite and forward are two guest cabins (or guest cabin and office) with private head. Under the deckhouse are all tanks, large store room, and walk-in engineroom. The flush aft deck will handle several large dinghies launched with the overhead boom.

There is nothing new to the idea of thin, light, seaworthy, and fast powerboats, and Tad Roberts has been inspired by several of those of the past. To Roberts, these boats brought to mind a glaring question: Why didn't the whole world flock to these sensible and efficient pleasure powerboat designs? He answered that question by identifying the elements that limited the type, and, in his Lite designs, addressed them. All in all, the Passagemaker Lite series is masterful work.
