Comments

The electric launch was built by students at the Silva Bay Shipyard School and commissioned by Barefoot Wooden Boats.

Comments: Carvel construction. Pretty in a traditional manner, for silent utility use around Silva Bay. Weight about 500 pounds with 240 pounds of batteries aboard. Designed around the 8 HP 24V Etec motor turning a 10 inch propeller. Range to be about 4 hours at 5 knots.

The Etek motor in the 15' Electric Launch is built by Briggs & Stratton for robots and small electric vehicles. It will handle 12-48 volts and will produce a maximum of 8 HP at about 4000 Rpm. In the boat it is setup with a 4:1 reduction and running 24 volts RPM at the prop is about 450. The owners have not yet gotten the right propeller on so no performance figures, but roughly she'll do 5.5 knots for about 4 hours on one charge.
